Asahu: can we infer that those who crave strength, in their hallow forms just flat out crave violence
Asahu: cuz the hallow is basically just the negatives of that personality to an extent
Asahu: so it takes the love of "fighting" and just sort of tweaks it to just destroying

Me: I don't necessarily know if their personality has much to do with the hollow. I think the personality can just carry over from when they were human, to when they were a hollow, to when they turned into an arrancar.

Asahu: so the personality carries over, and then just kind of goes through a Mental beat down?
Asahu: cuz like
Asahu: orihiMe's older brother

Me: Your personality would change a little... cus your fuckin hungry ALL THE TIME.
Asahu: but went through the knd of "Mental beatdowns"of being supposedly forgotton and stuff

Asahu: but would that be soMething along the lines of that, it uses your own personality against you per say
Asahu: turns your motivations and sends them in the wrong direction
Me: for those that change on their own slowly, I'm sure it's a slow process, but their way of thinking would change, but major parts of their personalities would probably be the saMe.
Asahu: motivation for strength turns into pure violence, instead of strength to protect or whatnot
Asahu: evident in ichigo
Asahu: when hallow form takes over
Asahu: main part of the personality is that hes almost always looking for a way to get stronger
Asahu: looking for ways to get out of situations
Asahu: the hallow form has the "get more power" mindset
Me: Yes. It could warp a persons perspectives as well.

Me: But Zaraki, who isn't a hollow also has that idealogy too
Asahu: but at that saMe tiMe
Asahu: he lived in a situation in which he was forced to "need" that power
Asahu: and the mindset ofneeding power kind of caMe about
Asahu: it wasnt to protect anyone but himself
Asahu: and hallows are generally self interested, IE orihiMe's brother again wanting not to be forgotten by his sister
Asahu: and also since shinigami have "eternal" lives,its kind of like the saMe situation almost

Date: 2006-11-01 10:27 am (UTC)I mean, we only have such partial answers... but yeah, best I can think of is that the process of becoming a hollow causes one's personality to be twisted. Things that would've been unthinkable before start to become possibilities and then even desirable. Though whether there's any direct correlation between a given emotion/feeling/trait and a particular aspect of the hollow is hard to say, because it probably varies from case to case. You'd have to look at individual examples instead of generalizations.
Grimmjow isn't a sadist in the sense of basically getting off on other peoples' pain. He's more in the sense of a bully, he wants to hurt people because it shows he has power over them, and gives him power over them. If he can sit and deliberately kill someone slowly, that's exercising that power. He likes to fight because it gives him the chance to inflict this pain.
By comparison, Ichigo likes to fight to an extent to test/show off his strength, and also simply rushes in because he feels the need to protect. As for Kenpachi, he fights for its own sake. Probably after the sort of life he lead where it was necessary to survive, fighting and the pain and the adrenaline that goes with it is what makes him feel alive, in a sense. But neither Ichigo nor Kenpachi fights with the specific intent of causing pain to the other person.

Hurting someone would be part of that power. I would change him as he went along [wittingly or not] so he would normalize. I don't think he would be as sadistic as he started off as, but I would definitely give him more of a sarcastic tint than woul dbe normal for him. While he can be outright insubordinate, I would hide that a little with witty banter! <---- lies, Grimmjow isn't as much witty as sharp tongued and blunt]
Zaraki is a special case. But I think you can include Ikkaku in that, too. 's why he follows him. Feel like we need to classify all the characters now. ::amused::
