I like the fact we're LEARNING shit about the past and getting more background on how all that random shit happened BUT-
Regardless of if you think he's redeemable or not, the mangaka is TRYING to redeem Itachi, which annoys the hell out of me because there's no way in hell putting your brother through tsukiyomi and using amaterasu on him is redeemable. Trying to make him stronger or really trying to kill him and upon failing you give him your powers is really retarded. ⌐_⌐
Very true, very true. Buuuuut then maybe he's not? I mean, I dunno... maybe I just assume that things are being left up to interpretation of the reader.
I also kind of got the idea that Kishimoto's trying to paint Itachi as a very big cog- but a cog nonetheless- in an already corrupt machine. Which pretty much proves your point. Unless Itachi really did have a vendetta against his family AND Konoha and is using Sasuke to finish that vendetta, in which case, he's still a majorly big bag of douche.
At this point, we can only assume. We have no idea the story Madara is spouting... *grumbles*
Yes. To see that Itachi caused such a cascade of effects due to actions that weren't caused by his own thoughts or Madara's [though we have to wait until the end of the flashback to see if that's the case] is amusing in a way. No matter how it happened, I think he was still manipulated in some way.
And don't get me wrong... I like Itachi as a douchebag. XD I want him to stay that way, too. >_>
