I have a headache... I've been getting them more recently. I don't really know why... BUT the real reason why I posted instead of going to bed:

I finally watched Star Trek. You know, the new movie. I liked it. 8D It was shiny. Yeah, the plot's been done a bajillliiion times, but revenge is revenge is revenge. I liked the shiny. I was more amused than I should have been at the repeated injections to the neck. Scottish accents |D and yay explosions \o

Then I watched Blood Diamond. Which is about... Diamonds that have been mined and sold illegally that -as a biproduct- fund civil wars that kills hundreds of thousands of Africans a year. It talks about how diamonds aren't really that rare [which amuses me, because when you think of all the oil and coal we use every day and how that is made from the same stuff diamonds are made of, it makes sense >_>] and that companies use supply and demand, locking up most of the supply to create more demand. Then about child soldiers. Smuggling. It was a good movie and I enjoyed it... well. In that 'Wow, that was a good ending but only because it's a movie' type of good. Makes me happy I don't give a rat's ass about jewelry, but diamonds are used in all sorts of things now. Who knows.

I still want to see Eastern Promises.

I stole this from [livejournal.com profile] xiao_huli_chan:

Teachers are Overpaid.

I'm fed up with these teachers and their hefty salary demands!!

What we need here is a little initiative! If I had my way, I'd pay these bludgers myself and I'd pay them babysitting wages. That's right! Instead of us paying outrageous taxes, I'd give them $3 an hour out of my own pocket for each of my children. I'd only pay them for 5 hours each day too, none of these coffee breaks and preparation time, correcting papers and after hours meetings or sport!

That would be a straight $15 per day per child. Each parent should have to pay $15 per day to these teachers to babysit their child. Even if you have more than one child, that is still a lot cheaper than day-care. Now perhaps, these chalkies will realise what they are really worth on the open market.

Let's see now... How many children do they teach every day? Maybe an average of 25-30 in a class? Say 27. That's $15/ child x 27 children/ class = $405 a day. Hmmm that sounds high. Ah, but remember, they only have the children there for 200 days a year. I'm not going to pay them for all those vacations or training days!!! To hell with that. Okay, how about $405/day x 200 days/year = $81 000 per year...

Wait a minute! Something is not right!

Some of these teachers say "what about those of us who have 10 years experience and an Educator's Degree (4 years at least) and are actually trying to teach your children something worthwhile?" Well, maybe to be fair we could round off their minimum wage off to about $5 an hour. That's cheap enough for that lot. So $5/child x 27 children/class x 5 hours/day x 200 days/year = $135 000 per year...

What is going on here???

Well it is clear we are paying our teachers less than half what we pay our neighborhood teenagers for babysitting our children. I think we should keep quiet about this.
