Drabble #14
Nov. 25th, 2006 12:17 amHe had specifically asked for the man to be brought to him, not that Michael would ever let anyone else know that. He would be the sole person to reap the benefits of recruiting such a strong ally to their side, but he didn't mind that at all...
He had been attracted to him because they were so very similar, though no one would ever know. When they shuffled through his mind to see if his intentions where pure, they couldn't see all the hidden thoughts and emotions the other man had buried so deep down that it was almost like he had forgotten them. When he himself had looked inside as the final judge, his conscious brushed against it, feeling its depth and dimension, the security with which it was locked.
He'd been instructed to keep his eyes closed, but they'd opened just a bit to gaze unseeing in front of him and spark with recognition before falling closed again. They both knew, and it was their own secret...
It was hundreds of years later, and that black box was just as tight as before. He would graze it occasionally, never letting the other forget he knew it was there and it was by his grace that he remained with them, his true goals hidden beneath intricate lies. With each passing, he grew to know it and its flaws. He would grip it in his mind and watch as an eyebrow furrowed in response, a second delay in an earnest conversation, or a quick look in his direction. He ignored them all and probed for a second before letting go.
He could feel the other's unease and it just made him smile. On the inside, of course.
And then, one day, he reached out and snagged that little box and began to crush it. He saw the other jerk and wince, as he hadn't ever done it that hard before. Then, it cracked. Eyes widened, a head whirled to look at him with a mixture of emotions. Shock. Pain. Confusion. But never fear. He had to admire him for that, at least a little bit, as he smashed open the locks to his most private and innermost feelings, letting them shoot through their connection to a place he'd prepared for them, not distracted at all but the animalistic cry unleashed by his cruelty.
And just as soon as they were released, they were sucked back into a new box almost instantaneously, but he had gotten what he wanted. Even as the body fell to the ground, he cast a spell to catch him, acting the part he must play as he shifted the alien memories around for later sorting. He breezed over them to get a general feel and hid his smile behind a mask of concern. This one was very interesting, and he reached out with a hand to touch the other man…
Very interesting…
