Drabble #8
Jun. 26th, 2006 12:51 pmShe was tired. So tired, and people kept coming to her with reports and questions and requests and even some demands. She would have shot them for having the audacity to demand something from her, but it was Blaine and David, and what they demanded of her was something she desperately needed. Sleep. Even as she lay down on the couch in her office, her mind fogged with weariness, she couldn’t completely shut down. Her mind wandered to Traine and what he was doing. Even after what had happened, she still couldn’t let go…
Sometime after she drifted asleep, she was thrust into wakefulness by a hand on her forehead. She stared up into dark eyes and allowed herself to relax again. “You nearly gave me a heart attack, Blake. At least knock when you come in.”
He curled a lip at her rebuke. “I did knock. My hand had been on your forehead for a good 15 seconds before you woke up. I thought you might have a fever. I wouldn’t have woke you if it wasn’t important.”
She sighed. “What is it?”
“He’s coming back.”
She stared at him.
“You get more meaning than I do from that. Mr.Smith told me to tell you.” Blake rose from his chair and headed to the door. “I suggest you tell me what it is later, before it’s too late for me to stop killing someone,” he suggested darkly, already guessing who it was. “Because I won’t hesitate.” With that ominous message he left her sitting on the couch with the fading light from the sun trailing in.
If he was coming back. She stood. If he was coming back... She walked over to her desk. She had a lot of things to do in preparation. She shivered. It was a moment she had anticipated for a full year and now she could hardly contain herself.
