AH, I love A Handmaid's Tale! I read it over the summer while I was sitting next to the pool babysitting, which seemed fittingly ironic. :P
Have you read anything else by her? I really loved Oryx and Crake -- another one of those 1984-esque novels, but really compelling and interesting.
Also, I read Lolita last semester for a class, and we were all really freaked out by the fact that we didn't feel bad for her, and on some level sympathized with Humbert. I mean, hellobrainfuck. ^^;
