It's called Watergate because it all happened at the Watergate office complex. :B It's not even supposed to be called Watergate, it's the Watergate scandal.

American news just feels the need to be cutesy and put "--gate" at the end of every single idiotic minor happening ever to make it seem more scandalous. Because it's not like there are other things happening in the world that need more attention or anything, oh no, we need to put gate at the end of things like Jessica Simpson gaining some weight or Michael Phelps doing pot, oh dear.
